Florida Opportunity Scholarship

The Florida Opportunity Scholarship program seeks to ensure that students from a diversity of economic backgrounds have an opportunity to attend UF. The program pays tuition and room and board for qualified Florida students who are the first in their families to attend college and whose families earn less than $40,000 annually. Since launching the FOS six years ago, UF has enrolled over 2,300 FOS students. The program has achieved its diversity goals: Seventy-six percent of FOS scholars are minorities, which compares to 37 percent for the general population. What’s more, while most UF students come from families with average annual incomes of more than $100,000, FOS students’ families earn an average $20,000 each year. Also, FOS students’ performance remains on par with the performance of traditional students.
